MISFIT PERFORATION AT Nº696 PRESS ASSOCIATION
In
this new contribution to our blog, we will show you a non catalogued variety recently
noticed. Some weeks ago, it was auctioned an exemplar from catalogue Edifil
nº696 which has its horizontal perforations absolutely misfit.
In 1936 a serie of stamps celebrating de XL
anniversary from “Press Association” was created. It was composed of 16 values,
including one for urgent mail. Lots of varieties have been described from these
stamps, but the one we are referring to has never been pointed out.
The concrete stamp is the 2 cents
value with the image of the contemporary Spanish journalist Mr. Torcuato Luca
de Tena. Moreover it was located in the bottom row from the whole sheet, so a
great portion from the white paper surrounding the stamps from the sheet has
reminded in the stamp. This rare variety, once discovered, is possible to
appear in others stamps of this serie.
