1922 ALPHONSE XIII 4 PTS. PERFORATED 11 1/4

UNCATALOGUED PERFORATION SIZE VARIETY
FROM 1922.

The basic stamps created in December 1922, with the central image of the face of King Alphonse XIII, show a perforation size 12 3/4 upright and 13 across. It is constituted of 18 different stamps from 2 centimes to 10 pesetas. They are calle Vaquer Type due to their original engraver Enrique Vaquer. There were millions of copies made and they were legally used until 1935. At the back of the stamps we can observe a control number in all of the samps except in the 2cts. stamps.

Among the great number of varieties that this serie of stamps left us, there exist at least 14 different catalogued varieties dealing with perforations. Today, we are going to complete one of these varieties with a new discovery. One of the catalogued perforation variety is the one that describes stamps of this serie with the perforation size 11 1/4 upright and across. This point is catalogued to happen in edifil 310, 314, 315, 317, 320 and 321.

As you can see in the next images of edifil 322 copies, after the used copy with the original perforation size a mint copy is shown with the new 11 1/4 perforation size. So a new one stamp in this serie that could show this perforation variety. It is obvious to think that this matter can be applied to the rest of the stamps of the serie but just we have no copies yet of the rest of the stamps.

Double traced overprint on edifil 743

Double non catalogued variety in the same stamp.

Wellcome back again to our blog. This week we are going to focus on one of the four stamps (one of them not finally issued) which were overprinted with the words "45 céntimos". This stamp was a complemetary value for the serie and is catalogued in Edifil as nº 743.

These stamps were created in 1938 and shows a handful of different varieties according to perforation, error printings of the overprint, traced overprints at the back of the stamps, different colour overprints or control number A,000.000 at back of stamps among them.

But we have found this year a block of stamps from nº 743 (reached from Canada) which shows two different varieties that are not listed in specialiced Edifil catalogue. Let´s describe them.

1.- The first non catalogued variety is a double overprint upon the stamp. Although this variety is catalogued upon numbers 742 and 743, it is not applied to nº 743.

2.- The second non catalogued variety in this stamp is that one of the two overprints has crossed the paper and therewere it is traced at back. This fact is only catalogued to happend in nº 742.

After we have described the two non catalogued varieties shown in this stamp we can conclude that any of the varieties described in the diffierent especialized catalogues are possible to be found in all the issues of this serie.

Once again we want to thank all the people who read this blog and, of course, any comment about we write here will be took into account. We hope you have liked this new contribution.
